A-frame / pavement sign A1 for shops, hospitality and events

An A-frame, also known as a pavement sign or sidewalk sign, puts your message literally at the door. The sign is intended for shops, restaurants, showrooms, associations, markets, trade fairs, open days, local promotions and temporary wayfinding. Thanks to the A1 size, a promotion, menu, opening time, route or sponsor message is clearly visible to passers-by. You place the sign at the entrance, on the pavement, in a shopping street, on a trade fair floor or along a walking route.

This product is the A-frame itself. The frame is available in black or grey and comes with two transparent display sheets. These sheets protect the poster from light dirt and ensure your message stays neatly in the click frame. Posters and new changeable prints can be ordered separately as A1 pavement sign posters. This way, you don't have to buy a new sign every time you need a new promotion, menu, seasonal message or opening hours poster.

Why choose this A-frame?

A pavement sign works well because it stands at eye level in the walking route. People don't have to look for a window, facade or screen: your message is where they pass by. This makes the sign suitable for a lunch promotion, sale, new collection, route to the entrance, registration, event, pickup point or local campaign.

The A-frame is easy to move. You place the sign outside when you are open and bring it back inside after closing time. This is handy for hospitality, pop-ups, market stalls and shops that want to keep their pavement tidy. Because the poster can be visible on both sides, you communicate in both walking directions. For example, use the same poster on both sides or switch the message per side.

Size, colour and appearance

The popular A1 size offers enough space for a large heading, short text, logo, photo and clear action. For a shop promotion, a strong offer with few words often works best. For hospitality, you can show a daily menu, lunch deal, terrace message or opening time. For events, arrows, icons, room names, programme information and sponsor logos are logical.

Choose black when you want a sleek and high-contrast frame. Black fits well with modern shops, hospitality, hair salons, showrooms and promotions with lots of colour. Grey looks more neutral and fits well with business entrances, trade fairs, institutions and situations where the sign may be less prominent than the message.

Outdoor use

An A-frame is suitable for normal outdoor use in sheltered or usual pavement and entrance spots. Always consider safety in strong wind, storms, heavy rain or busy passages. Place the sign stably, avoid blocking the passage and bring it inside in bad weather. If you want an extra heavy outdoor sign for open areas or wind-sensitive locations, look at a pavement sign with water tank.

The two transparent display sheets help keep your poster neat, but they don't make a regular paper poster the same as a fully weather-resistant outdoor poster. For outdoor promotions, we recommend sturdy or waterproof pavement sign posters. For temporary indoor or sheltered promotions, standard poster paper may be sufficient.

Design tips for a good pavement sign

Use little text. A pavement sign is often viewed while walking, cycling or from a car. Therefore, choose a clear main message, large letters, high contrast and a recognisable image or icon. Avoid long sentences and small details. A good structure is: short heading, strong image, price or benefit, and possibly an arrow or short call-to-action.

Keep important text and logos well within the edges. In hospitality, preferably use large menu names or product photos instead of a full menu with small lines. For shops, a discount percentage, product category or short promise often works better than much explanation. For events and routes, arrows, colours and icons are more important than long instructions.

Smartly combine with separate posters

An A-frame is hardware you use more often. Most repeat purchases are in new posters: sale, lunch card, new opening hours, seasonal promotion, trade fair message, property viewing, sponsor action or open day. If you already have an A-frame, order separate A1 pavement sign posters. If you want to create a complete campaign immediately, combine the sign with flyers, window stickers, posters or menus in the same style.

At Printen.eu, you order the A-frame from 1 piece.
