Connect Etsy: have your designs printed and shipped
6 min readUpdated
With the Etsy connection, we fetch paid orders with your SKUs automatically. We print and ship under your name and push the tracking back to Etsy. Etsy does have its own rules for products someone else makes for you; this article explains exactly what to set up.

How do you connect your Etsy shop?
Open Connections
In your dashboard, go to the Connections tab.
Click Connect
On the Etsy card, click Connect. You are taken to Etsy. If you are not logged in, log in with your shop’s account first.
Grant access
Etsy asks whether Printen.eu may access your shop. Click Allow access.
Back to your dashboard
You return to your dashboard automatically. Under Connected stores your Etsy shop now appears with the status
active.
How do you add Printen.eu as a production partner?
Etsy requires you to name a production partner when someone else makes your product. You design, we print: so you add Printen.eu as a production partner and link it to your listings. If you do not, Etsy may remove your listings.
Open the settings
In Etsy, go to Shop Manager > Settings > Production partners.
Add a partner
Click Add a production partner.
Enter the details
Name: Printen.eu. Location: Netherlands. Description, for example: “Print-on-demand production: prints and ships my designs.”
Save
Save the production partner. You can now select it in every listing.
How do you set up a listing?
First create the product under Products in your dashboard, with your design and your own SKU, and set it to Active. See Creating products. Then create the listing in Etsy and set these fields:
| Field in Etsy | What to choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Who made it? | I did (you made the design) | The design is yours; you name the production separately. |
| What is it? | A finished product | You sell a ready-made product, not a supply or tool. |
| When was it made? | Made to order | We only print once an order comes in. |
| Production partner | Printen.eu | Required by Etsy when someone else produces the item. |
| Category | The category that best fits your product | Etsy requires a category for every listing. |
| SKU | Exactly your Printen.eu SKU, for example POSTER-A2-MAT | That is how we recognise the order. A different SKU means: no order with us. |
| Quantity | A high number, for example 999 | Your product is made to order, so it never runs out. |
How do you set up shipping and processing time?
Every Etsy listing has a shipping profile. Create one especially for your Printen.eu products.
Create a shipping profile
In Etsy, go to the shipping settings and create a new shipping profile, for example “Printen.eu”.
Set the processing time
Choose a processing time that covers our production and shipping. You find the current delivery times on shipping. Better one day too many than too few.
Set the shipping costs
Set shipping costs per country that at least cover our shipping costs. They differ per country and you see them in the quote in your dashboard.
Assign the profile
Select this shipping profile in every listing with a Printen.eu product.
How do orders come in?
- Every 15 minutes. Etsy does not notify us of new orders. So every 15 minutes we fetch the paid orders that have not been shipped or cancelled. An order can therefore take up to about a quarter of an hour to appear in your dashboard.
- Paid orders only, only after connecting. We never fetch orders from before the connection. If needed, place those yourself via Orders > Place an order.
- Your SKUs only. We only take lines with the SKU of an active product in your dashboard. Other items stay with you. The same SKU in several lines is added up.
- No duplicate orders. Each order is created with us only once, however often we check.
- Payment. The order is charged to your balance or your saved card. If your balance is too low, the order gets Awaiting balance. See Payments and balance.
How does the tracking get to Etsy?
As soon as we ship the parcel, we mark the order on Etsy as shipped, with the tracking code and carrier. Your buyer sees the tracking with their order on Etsy. We never email your buyer ourselves.
What do you do when the status is reauth_required?
Under Connected stores you see the status per shop, the Last sync and, in red, the last error.
| What you see | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Status reauth_required | Access to your shop has expired, for example after 90 days without activity, or you revoked it. | On the Etsy card, click Connect again and grant access again. |
| A red error | The last attempt to fetch orders or push tracking back failed. | Read the message. If it is unclear or keeps appearing, please contact us. |
| An order does not come in | Less than 15 minutes have passed, the SKU differs, the product is set to Inactive, or the order is from before you connected. | Wait a quarter of an hour, check the SKU character by character and the product status. Place older orders yourself via Orders > Place an order. |
How do you disconnect your shop?
In your dashboard, go to Connections, click Disconnect and confirm. We then stop fetching orders and delete your access on our side; the shop gets the status disconnected. Etsy offers no way to revoke access from our side, so you then do that yourself on Etsy:
Open your account settings
On etsy.com, go to Account > Settings > Apps (Apps you’ve connected).
Revoke access
Find Printen.eu in the list of connected apps and remove its access.
Check your dashboard
At the next attempt we see that access is gone, and we stop fetching.
